Playsuit, jumpsuit or its sexy sister the catsuit, whatever you want to call it , it’s back with a vengeance.
For those of you who watch my favourite glam prog “Strictly Come Dancing”, did you notice that Tess was looking fab in a red jumpsuit number on Saturday? A friend sent me a text ” I LOVE Tess’s dress, pls get one in your shop for me to try” 2 minutes later another text followed from same, “Ooops just realised Tess is wearing a jumpsuit!” Yeah and…!? I love the jumpsuit why would one catapult from love 2 hate in a milli second upon the realisation that the dress is actually not a dress but contains a built in component of wide leg trousers, you loved it a minute ago? Is this really so abominable and scary? Is it because there’s an association with it being an oversized romper suit or is it the thought of having to strip from the neck down at the first call of nature or is it an inbuilt fear of clingy fabric enveloping thy body? You’re happy to wear trousers/top combos which amount to similar. Please enlighten me.
The jumpsuit; playsuit; catsuit is funky, sexy & totally on trend! This isn’t the first time I’ve indulged in the all in ones, the last time round I had a black lycra catsuit (glorified body sock) which zipped up the back, but come on girls if this makes your wobbly bits quake at the waist you can do it in a more forgiving way. I have an Ilse Jacobsen number of soft black jersey, with a lovely shiny beaded scooped neck. Belted at the waist with flattering wide legs the fabric just falls beautifully and it’s so easy and comfy. Ok it’s sleeveless, so I layer it up with a polo neck, funky shirt or long sleeved top and some sparkly converse trainers or MBTs and I’m good to go. It’s also great tucked into ankle boots with a big cascading knit thrown over the top. I’m looking forward to the party season when I can wear it in its raw state – an all in one complete outfit with killer heels. I love it!!
So here’s the thing, feel the fear and in the words of that famous sports strap-line, just do it!
By the way, my tall, leggy texting friend would look great in one … you know who you are! x

I agree – love, love, love jumpsuits! Farrah Fawcett wore some amazing ones; I have more than a few in my wardrobe. But do men like them? My other half positively hates them!
I agree – Jumpsuits are go! Effortless chic without the drama of co-ordinating separates.
